Centigrade was originally established in 1962 as Matamata Refrigeration Services. However as the business grew and technology within the industry changed, it was realised that the name of Matamata Refrigeration Services was limiting the understanding of the customer as to what Matamata Refrigeration Services actually offered. For example, customers often commented that they did not approach Matamata Refrigeration Services for heat pumps as they were unaware they offered these.

Therefore in November 2007 the company was rebranded to become Centigrade – temperature control specialists. It was felt the new corporate identity gave a more precise description to customers about what the business actually did.

The launch of the new brand coincided with a new 0800 CENTIGRADE phone number, the release of this website and extensive TV, radio and print advertising to ensure customers were aware that it was only a change of name.

The message was “same awesome team of people, quality products and excellent service…just a new name”.
