Cycling & Cycle Ways Itinerary

Duration: 1 hr - 5 Day

A trip to the Waikato region of New Zealand would not be complete without exploring a few of its picturesque cycle trails. Waikato offers up a range of scenery from beaches to lakes and rivers to rural landscapes. We invite you to come and enjoy an unforgettable journey you won’t get anywhere else. Below we have offered a few options of cycling & cycle ways itinerary close to our own front door.

Option 1

Hauraki Rail Trail

“The Hauraki Rail Trail is a short drive from Hamilton, Auckland and Tauranga and is accessible from the quaint townships of Thames, Paeroa, Te Aroha, Waihi and Matamata. Officially starting from Kaiaua in the North, the start of the trail traces the Shorebird Coast along the Firth of Thames. Riders enjoy contrasting landscapes from the verdant Hauraki Plains, to the intriguing Karangahake Gorge, carved by the forces of nature. Finally, there’s a gentle ride South through lush farmlands to the hometown of the Hobbiton Movie Set.”

Option 2

Waikato River Trails

“Experience the unseen…The trails cover about 105km of previously inaccessible Southern Waikato land. They wind their way along a path that encompasses the magic and beauty of New Zealand native bush, exotic forest, historic landmarks, interesting rock formations and geological delights. Be inspired as you walk, run or cycle through grassed farmland, open reserves, boardwalks over significant wetlands, and expansive lake and river views.”
