The museum occupies the site of the former 56,000 acre Matamata Estate, established by Auckland entrepreneur Josiah Firth in 1882.

Learn about life in days gone by through the museum’s displays, housed in 13 buildings.

The displays and exhibits in the museum are the work of Matamata Historical Society.
