The restaurant is a family business run by brothers Marko and Nik, who grew up in the industry. The story began when their father arrived in New Zealand from Europe in the 1980s and started as a dish hand for Italian restaurateur Gino, earning his stripes as a chef after volunteering to cook for 120 people when the restaurant found itself without its regular chef. Years later, the Zoraja family opened their own establishment and Osteria was born.
